15km (5 hours)

Difficulty:
7/10. Elevation gain of 450m

Cel phone coverage: Almost none.

Water needs: 2 liters. 50% shaded

Appreciation: 8/10. Nice forested path will have you go through the villages of Pak Sha O, Nam Shan Tung, Lai Chi Chong, and Sham Chung.

Exercise Area: No

Transportation: Get to Sai Kung Pier (Many ways to get there. Check-out https://www.hkemobility.gov.hk/index.php?golang=EN) .Then take minibus 7 and stop at Pak Sha O Youth Hostel. You can show the bus driver the following if you want to make sure not to miss your stop (that's the second last stop).
Return to Sai Kung via bus 99, or 299.

Why it's worth it:

The Pak Sha O youth hostel entrance.

Head left

After about 2.3km (40min walk) from your starting point, you will reach this  junction. Path 'A' is the one I took and the one that is mapped; it is more difficult and the entry to the path at Tai Pak Kok beach is not obvious and you could easily get lost. If you can still take 'A' and retrace your step to this point if you want to go to the pier. Otherwise, take path 'B' (skip to Shum Chung Manor)

A few minutes later, you will arrive at Lai Chi Chong village.

In no more than 15 minutes, you will have reached the beach

At this point, you can retrace your steps to the 'A-B' junction,
or keep walking on the beach ('B' path)

If you keep walking on the beach for 5 minutes, you will see a piece of land that jolts into the bay. There's a little brook that joins the sea right after. You have to manage to go into the forest a little before or after the brook. Then walk in for about 50m or so and try to find the path the best you can. There are some sparse markers. Finding the path is the tricky part. But once you found it, it is easy to follow and relatively clear, but overgrown.

You will eventually re-join the main path that path 'B' would have also led you to. Head right towards Sham Chung. That point is at 6.5km into your hike.

Shum Chung Manor

Yung Shue O village. Head right. About 10.9km into the hike

At ~14.5km into the high, you'll reach this junction, head right.
You are about 500m away from the bus stop at this point.

Turn left on that road (Sai Sha rd); the bus stop is 100m ahead.
